Hello dear my amigurumi friends, today i will share with you amigurumi odd the octopus playmate.
I hope you enjoy knitting. Have a nice day!
Equipements:
– Desired yarn and a crochet hook that fit your yarn (using a hook that is just below the recommended size for the yarn you’re using usually makes a good result)
– Small amount of – preferable – light weight/fingering black and white yarn
– Something for filling – I used poleyester filling
– Needle for assembling
Notes:
Inc = increase, I recommend invisible increase
Dec = decrease, I recommend invisible decrease
You work continiously in a spiral
Head:
Make a magic ring (link to youtube video if you’re not familiar with the technique)
R1: 6sc in the ring (6)
R2: inc x 6 (12)
R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (sc, inc, sc) x 6 (24)
R5: (inc, 3sc) x 6 (30)
R6: (4sc, inc) x 6 (36)
R7: (sc, inc, 4sc) x 6 (42)
R8: (6sc, inc) x 6 (48)
R9: 48 sc around (48)
R10: (inc, 7sc) x 6 (54)
R11-18 (8 rounds): 54 sc around
R19: (dec, 7sc) x 6 (48)
R20: (dec, 6sc) x 6 (42)
R21: (dec, 5sc) x 6 (36)
R22: (dec, 4sc) x 6 (30)
R23: (dec, 3sc) x 6 (24)
R24: (dec, 2sc) x 6 (18)
If you didn’t already start adding some filling now
R25: (dec, sc) x 6 (12)
R26: dec x 6 (6)
Weave in ends (I think this method makes the best result)
Legs (make 8):
Make a magic ring
R1: 6sc in the ring (6)
R2: inc x 6 (12)
R3: (3sc, inc) x 3 (15)
R4-8 (5 rounds): 15 sc around (15)
R9: (3sc, dec) x 3 (12)
R10-14 (5 rounds): 12 sc (12)
R15: (2sc, dec) x 3 (9)
R16-22 (7 rounds): 9sc (9)
Fill – I used medium amount of filling for each leg (not firmly, not loose).
Crochet or sew together end. (picture below) Leave tail for attaching later
Eyes:
End each round with a sl st to the last st of previous rnd. Start each with a ch (doesn’t count)
Start with black: R1: 6sc in a magic ring
Switch to white: R2: incx3, 2hdc in next 3 sts (12)
R3: (sc, inc)x3, inc, hdc, 2hdc in next 3sts, hdc (20)
R4: (2sc, inc) x 6, sc, inc (27)
Assembling:
Eyes; attach to head at R12-17, I kept approx 5 sts between each eye
1: White thread: Leave this one for attaching to head. 2. Weave in and cut 3. Black threads; I just made a few secure knots and cut the thread
Use the white thread to “secure” the eye to the head with a few loose stitches.
After this use the same black thread and make 10-12 stitches (as seen on the full picture of Odd). I like that they are pretty randomly placed/randomly sized – approx 2 st between each.
Attach legs to head; Approx 4-5 rnds from last round. Before you start attaching try to see if you get each leg to fit, there shouldn’t be much space between each leg. Above is just a picture demonstrarting how I planned my leg attachment. Before I started attaching I removed all legs but one, but you could leave a little pin for help. Attach one leg at time.
After attaching the 2nd leg, I like to go back and secure the neighboor leg with a few st.
Make sure to secure the end st (marked with arrow above). I noticed myself it was easy to forget – just a tip!
Don’t cut thread before you’re all done, go over your octopus and check that each leg is completely attached. If you notice a gap you can go back securing with one of the threads. When you’re sure everything is ok cut the threads and you’re done!
