DIFFICULTY

INTERMEDIATE

Materials

  • Any yarn in golden brown, ivory, black, soft pink, white, red, green,
    mocca and dark brown colour
  • Crochet hook that matches the size of your yarn
  • A pair of safety eyes and washer (I use oval eyes in 10x8mm)
  • Tapestry/yarn needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing
  • A hot glue gun

SIZE

I used Bali cotton yarn in size #2 (sport) and a 2.50mm crochet
hook. My Reindeer Shiba turned out approximately 12cm (3.4″) tall.

ABBREVIATIONS

R = round/row
ch = chain
st(s) = stitch(es)
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tc = triple crochet
inc = increase (2sc in 1 st)
dec = decrease (sc in 2 st)
[…] = a total of […] stitches on that round
BLO = back loop only
FLO = front loop only
sk = skip
slst = slip stitch
x(…) = repeat (…) times

Sealing method

I often use this method to get rid of some tails because it saves
more time than weaving the tails in one by one. However, make
sure the area that you want to “seal” is not visible, thus, not making
it ugly.

  1. Hold the tail to your piece. If you have more than 1 tail, you can
    twist it to become one.
  1. Apply a small amount of hot glue gun, quickly and carefully press
    it using a metal flat object, I’m using my scissors.

Cut off the tail and you’re done.

8 green “squares” in total.

Assembly

I recommend to use ball point pins for assembly. This way will help
you to keep the pieces in place and make it easier to do the
sewing.
I’m using a hot glue gun to attach some of the parts, but if you
make this amigurumi for kids, I recommend to make it fully sewn.

  1. Sew the body to the head. Then, pull the shirt up so there’s no
    gap anymore. Sew/glue it in place.
  2. Place the hood diagonally to the head like so. Then, sew/glue it
    in place.
  1. This step is optional, I inserted a wire through the upper part of the
    body for the arms. (Not recommended if you make this amigurumi
    for kids)
  2. Sew the arms to the sides of the upper body.
  3. Sew the snout on the centre of the face, place the top of the
    snout 1 round above the round that you insert safety eyes. Before
    fully close the gap, insert little stuffing.
  1. Attach the eyebrows approx. 2 round above the eyes, slightly to
    the centre and forming like angry eyebrows a little.
  2. Attach the cheeks on both sides of the lower part of the face.
  3. Sew the reindeer ears to the hood, approx. 8sts away from the
    middle stitch that is alligned in the centre of the face. (The needle
    marks the middle stitch.)
  1. Sew the horns above each ears.
  2. Sew the tail on the lower back of the body underneath the shirt.
    Using the excess yarn, sew the top part of the tail to the back of
    the shirt to fix the tail so it will remain curled.
  1. Sew the nose in the middle and upper part of the snout.
  2. Wrap the scarf surrounding the neck, then sew/glue it in place.
